Post- Apocalypse Survival Vehicles

In the Zombie apocalypse everyone will be fighting for safe transportation, check out these quality choices for a suitable vehicle. Of course we here at Z.O. know that any four wheeled vehicle is a death trap since the roads will be like parking lots, blocked with cars and corpses. We recomend two wheeled transportation like a dirt bike or a light motor cycle. You might not be able to carry much, but you can always loot the rest later. Urban Dead Limited Expansion

(From UD)

To celebrate the release of Diary of the Dead in UK cinemas on March the 7th, Urban Dead is running a fresh outbreak in the suburbs and countryside of Pennsylvania. If you manage to loot a video camera, your character can put together their own video diary of the apocalypse, with the best entries from UK players being eligible for a pack of Romero prizes.

Survivors are warned that Monroeville has no NecroTech facilities! Although zombies in Malton can be fully revivified to their pre-death state, Monroeville zombies are bound by the Romero canon, and are fated to walk the earth forever. You only get one life - be careful out there.

I already started a new character, and it is like playing Urban Dead on the day of creation. No one has any real skills yet, and buildings have no barricades. To bad U.S. players cant win any cool stuff! Check out the trailer to Diary of the Dead here.

Music Collection Sells for 3 Million

The high bid on eBay came in at $3,002,150 for a collection Mr. Mawhinney estimated was worth $50 million.

Mr. Mawhinney, the 68-year-old owner of the Ross-based Record Rama, had been trying to sell the collection for many years and nearly got $28 million for it earlier in the decade. But the value of such collections has plunged since the explosion of online music.

Faced with health problems, particularly failing vision, Mr Mawhinney decided to retire, close his store and put the collection on eBay this month, for a minimum of $3 million with no reserve. That averages about one dollar a piece for the vault of approximately 3 million LPs, 45s, CDs, cassettes and 8-tracks, plus his own patented vinyl cleaning system and ownership of six publishing companies and eight independent labels. It is believed to be the second biggest sale in the history of eBay, after a $4.9 million private jet.

Not much is known yet about "jopsoup," the screen name of the Galway, Ireland-based buyer, other than that he has 33 positive feedback ratings and one negative in his eBay purchasing history.

Urban Dead Update (February)

As you know form past Urban Dead post, Urban Dead is a massive free online MMORPG. Any way, MDK and neighboring groups in Vinetown have banded together nicely to combat the relentless zombie strike that seems to be over a month old now. Some months are calm and zeds to kill are hard to find but that certainly is not the case this month. A few MDK members are getting close to that 20,000 xp mark, if the zeds stick around for awhile the 20,000 xp mark might come sooner than expected.

Pentagon to Shoot Down Satellite

Some time Wednesday night you may able to witness a satellite being blown up in outer space. From what I gathered from TV news, a missile is to be fired from a ship in the Pacific. The animation on the news showed the ship between Northern California and Hawaii launching a missile into the satellite above. So I figure on Wednesday night you might be able to witness some high tech military might of the coast of northern California. I know I'll be looking up Wednesday night!

Worlds Oldest Person

(From BBC)

According to Mrs Amash, she was born 120 years ago - a claim, if confirmed, that would make her the oldest person in the world.

The Guinness Book of Records currently lists 114-year-old Edna Parker of Shelbyville, Indiana, as holding the title.

But Mrs Amash - who lives in the predominantly Arab town of Jisr az-Zarqa in northern Israel - views her rival as a relative youngster.

I wonder if Shelbyville is near Springfield?

Fried Chicken To Be Official Picnic Food

A proposed measure in Kentucky is aiming to make fried chicken the state's official picnic food.

From AP--

"The late colonel's fried chicken deserves the title because of the worldwide attention and economic benefit it has brought to the state, Siler said. KFC, a subsidiary of Louisville-based Yum Brands Inc., has 11,000 restaurants in more than 80 countries.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals bristles at the idea. The animal rights group claims that the chickens KFC serves are abused, even tortured.

"If the state legislature moves forward with this one, then they should change Kentucky's state bird from the cardinal to the debeaked, crippled, scalded, diseased, dead chicken," said Bruce Friedrich, PETA vice president."

I wonder what kind of food would or could be the official state food here in California? I'm thinking Tacos or maybe Nachos, or any Mexican food. Regardless, this proposal sounds like a state sponsored commercial to me.

Planet Earth Series On DVD

From Wikipedia:

Planet Earth is an Emmy Award-winning BBC nature documentary series narrated by David Attenborough and produced by Alastair Fothergill. It was first broadcast in the UK from 5 March 2006. The American version is narrated by Sigourney Weaver.

The series was co-produced with Discovery Channel and the NHK in association with the CBC, and was described by its makers as "the definitive look at the diversity of our planet". It was also the first of its kind to be filmed almost entirely in high-definition.[1] The series was nominated for the Pioneer Audience Award for Best Programme at the 2007 BAFTA TV awards.[2]

This is one of the best nature documentary series ever. Apparently some 10-20 second shots took weeks to film. Our favorites are the oceanography focused episodes, particularly "Shallow Seas". We recommend the original version with narration by David Attenborough, not the Discovery Channel's run with Sigourney Weaver. The Series is available on Net Flix. Here are a few screen shots:

Zombie Obscurity Drowning In Fish

Recently Zombie Obscurity has acquired quite a few fish tanks. So many in fact we are running out of operating space. So far the team has one 55 gal. and one 20 gal. set up, and two more 55's waiting to be set up. As of now the two tanks are stocked with African Cichlids, mostly from lake Malawi. African Cichlids are quite entertaining as we found out. They are not exactly community fish, they are territorial and aggressive. The Z.O. team is hoping to get a breading colony together. Any how here's a photo of Big Bee, a large female Pseudotropheus carbro, aka Hornet or Bumble Bee Cichlid. The second photo is of Little Pink, a hybrid Peacock, we think. As you may have read we were not very creative naming them.

Homeless Real World

DENVER (AP)

"A dirty, disheveled Keith Peeler had been living on the streets for nearly a year when a crew of 20-somethings with cameras jumped out of a van and headed straight for him. Some of Peeler's homeless buddies wanted to run.

But the young people had an offer: $10 a day, plus close to minimum wage, to appear on what they were calling "Homeless Real World," an Internet spoof of MTV's reality show.

Peeler and his pals took the cash. Over several weeks, the producers of the show had the cast members compete to build the best cardboard house, sent them grocery shopping in a well-to-do Denver neighborhood (The homeless got dirty looks) and paid for them to golf on a public course (They got kicked off).

The idea has angered some homeless advocates, who said the series — which has yet to be aired on the Web — exploited the homeless people and mocked them cruelly."

Man Sells Weed On Craigs List

"Police arrested a Bridgeport man who posted an ad on Craigslist.org boasting about the "A plus" marijuana he had for sale, authorities said yesterday.

Officers spotted the ad and e-mailed the alleged dealer, claiming to be a Stamford painting crew interested in buying drugs during a work break, said Lt. Jon Fontneau, commander of the narcotics and organized crime squad.

The link leading to the full advertisement read, "Mary Jane in Fairfield County," Fontneau said. The ad offered a half-ounce of "A plus" marijuana for $220 and the same amount of "B plus" marijuana for $160, Fontneau said."
